So far, the best information I have been able to find is pointing to the likelihood of a very small band of hail that might have caused some really light damage on the north side of Austin. I've been looking at some viewer supplied pictures of the hailstones from the storm that moved across Austin this morning, and it looks like most of the hail was dime to ping-pong ball size, with just a small area around MoPac and Parmer, and MoPac and Braker, that might have ended having some light damage.

You can see for yourself at these image galleries here, here and here. This is some pretty early information, so you might want to check these galleries again this evening and in the morning because I'm sure they'll get updated with more pictures as the day goes on.

From what I've seen so far, I'd get on the phone and make sure it's worth it before running on this one.

OK, so I've been digging around to try and find some confirmation of the hail damage report out of Malvern, AR from yesterday evening with only a little success. I haven't been able to completely confirm that there was actually any damaging hail inside Malvern itself.

I have been able to come up with this picture of some nice size hail stones in the small town of Prattsville, Ar, which, as you can see here, is about half way between Malvern and Sheridan, AR. This report is from out in the middle of the countryside and isn't really worth chasing, so there is no way I'm going to call this report legitimate yet, or advise anyone to run it.

I'll let you know if I'm able to find anything else.

Sorry to disturb your January guys, but it looks like it's already time to load the truck and hit the road again. I have been watching this system develop across Arkansas this evening, and there really isn't any surprise that a decent size town got hit.

I can confirm that Newport, Arkansas, in Jackson county (not Ouchita county like the weather service reported) got hit with golfball to baseball size hail stones this evening. KAIT TV out of Jonesboro, AR has a story about the damage here. There are several pictures of the hailstones next to the story.

I'm not going to steal their images, but if you just want to look at the pictures, you can see them here, here, here and here. These are all from either in Newport, or Diaz, AR, a little town on the north side of Newport.

I haven't been able to confirm any of the other hail reports from Malvern, AR, Brinkley, AR or south of Pine Bluff, AR, but as soon as I can find out any information on these other hailstorms I'll get it posted.

The hail storms that moved through northern Georgia, including the Atlanta metro area, yesterday evening and last night came at a bad time to get much in the way of picture confirmations from citizens but I have been able to find some. It is obviously very early in the game for there to be much in the way of storm damage reporting but my initial assessment of the Georgia hail damage reports is that most of them were exaggerated. The vast majority of pictures I have been able to find have shown pea to quarter size hail stones, and not very many of them. There were a few images of hail stones capable of producing hail damage to cars and those are listed below.

Mableton, Georgia
Douglasville, Georgia
Bethlehem, Georgia
Auburn, Georgia (This is by far the best looking hail damage report so far.)
Cartersville, Georgia

As I said above, the hail damage report out of Auburn, GA is the most legitimate looking one so far. If I were going to run this storm, I would go straight to Auburn and skip the other stuff. You could easily waste three days looking around the Atlanta metro for damage that may or may not exist.

Of course, you should always do what your gut tells you and not put too much confidence in some anonymous guy from the internet. This is just my opinion based on the information at hand right this minute. It could change as more hail damage report confirmations come out.

I just wanted to give you guys an update on the hail damage report that came out of Corinth, MS from the Thursday evening storm line with this quick post. Basically the hail report from Corinth was bogus. Now, we all know that probably means someone got a little bit excited when they saw some dime size hail hitting the windshield of their car and thought it was huge.

I can report to you first-hand that I combed the area and did not find a single dent or any debris or other signs of a real hail storm. That's it for now. I'll let you know what other hail damage report information I come up with soon.

This list of hail damage report confirmations is long and covers a very large swath of real estate. It took a couple of days to gather all of these confirmations from several different sources. I made notes as I went along as well as plotting the reports on my map also. I know you guys are used to me providing links to my confirmation sources but this time there were simply too many sources gathered over too long a time frame for me to keep up with so you are just going to have to take my word for it or do your own research but I guarantee you that each of the following hail damage report confirmations has been verified through either photos, video, or first person witness reports.

I have verified hail stones of a size capable of producing damage to cars and roofs at the following locations in Tennessee;

Tennessee Ridge, TN
Erin, TN
Linden, TN
Flatwoods, TN
Hohenwald, TN
Waynesboro, TN
Lawrenceburg, TN
Lewisburg, TN
Shelbyville, TN
Manchester, TN
Estill Springs, TN
Bell Buckle, TN
Cookeville, TN

I'm sure, like any good storm chaser, you have looked these towns up and seen that several of them are pretty small but if you plot them on your map you will also see that they are clustered together in groups. There are also several confirmations of hail damage in the rural county areas around and between these small towns. That's why they were included in this report.

You'll also notice I have not included Murphreesboro, TN in this report. I left them out because, from what I can see in the news reports, the whole town is considered a tornado zone with some significant damage. You are going to be hard pressed to get a report out of that area for anything not related to tornado damage. There is almost certainly some hail damage in the area and possibly in the town itself but there is no way to confirm it yet.

Be careful out there and keep those prices up. I'll be posting more hail damage confirmations as I get them.

Well, it looks like the price of hail damage repair just went up!

There are so many hail damage reports with this round that I am going to post the damage confirmations as I find them in regional groups. I can tell you this for sure, there is a lot more damage out there than is on the reports so don't be afraid to think outside the box and do a little bit of old school storm chasing. You know, the kind where you plot the storm tracks on your map and then follow it looking for damage. There is going to be some hail damage out there that doesn't get found by more than a few people, try to be one of them.

These hail damage report confirmations are from North Alabama. I'm sure there are a lot more from this area but my desktop is getting full and I need to get some of these posted so, here goes.

It looks like the whole north side of the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex had a series of nasty storms move across last night and I've been able to run down a few hail damage report confirmations for you so far this morning. So far I have been able to find confirmations of the hail reports in the following cities and towns of north Texas;

Grapevine, Texas

Keller, Texas

Southlake, Texas

Roanoke, Texas

Agnes, Texas

Springtown, Texas

I have been able to confirm the damaging hail reports in these towns through news reports and pictures that I found here, here and here. It looks like the heaviest hit area is going to be from Keller to Southlake and over to Grapevine with hailstone sizes making it up to nearly baseball size. I'm also picking up some chatter about damaging hail in the Watauga, Copell and Colleyville, TX areas but I haven't been able to confirm anything yet.

There is probably quite a bit of good golf ball size hail damage to a lot of cars all the way across the entire northern metroplex. Unfortunately, these areas get hit frequently enough that the folks just aren't that excited about reporting anything smaller than baseball hail.

This hail damage confirmation report is a but of a mixed bag because, while it does contain some actual confirmations, it also is going to report about a lack of information at all concerning other hail reports. I was able to find some images of some of the hail that fell in Louisiana here. The towns with confirmed hail damage reports are;

Longville, Louisiana

Ragley, Louisiana

Unfortunately, I have not been able to turn up any kind of confirmation at all for the hail damage reports out of Eunice, Louisiana or Franklin, Louisiana. I have been able to find a lot of information about a storm that hit Franklin but it is all talking about heavy wind or tornado damage there is not any mention or photos of hail damage at all.

The towns that have been confirmed for damaging hail are pretty small and would hardly warrant a trip by themselves but if you are headed over to run the Texas hail damage north of Houston, it might be worth checking out.

This is a follow-up post to the Austin, Texas Hail Damage Report Confirmations post from the Thursday. It looks like the hail damage in and around the North side of Austin is both more wide spread and severe than it looked like at first. Here are a few videos of the actual hailstorm in Austin and right after it.










As you can see, this was a bad storm. I have talked to a couple of different guys that are on the ground in Austin and they tell me that there are a lot of hail damaged cars in the area and the body shops are getting packed in already. They tell me there is quite a bit of good, PDR repairable damage but there are also a lot of really hard hit vehicles that are going to be totaled.

That's what I know about the Austin, TX hail damage. I'll be making more posts today as I am able to confirm more of these other Texas and Louisiana hail damage reports.

This post is an update to the earlier Georgia Hail Damage post.

I have been in contact with a couple of professional that are actually on the scene in the Atlanta area and have actually seen the hail damage with their own eyes. They gave me this update and I wanted to pass it along to you guys so you don't waste any more time than you have to out there chasing the real hail damage down.

The reports I'm getting tell me that the hail that hi the northern parts of the Atlanta metro were very light and there is very little actual damage. What this probably means is that the storms were extremely small and the pictures that came out of that area were probably from a fairly concentrated area. Either way, if you have found something in that part of town, good for you. If you haven't, you probably don't want to waste your time trying.

The other report I'm hearing is that the areas south of the city are hammered with lots of wide-spread and heavy hail damage. This is probably going to be the most productive area to hit if you haven't got anything going yet.

Thanks guys for the "on the ground updates", they are invaluable.

I just want to be clear with you guys though, everybody is saying this stuff is really hard hit. I'm sure there are going to be plenty of moderately hail damaged cars in this storm, it's just too wide-spread not to, but if you just spent the last winter learning paintless dent repair, this probably isn't the storm you want to cut your teeth on. Just be patient, there will be plenty of good hail damage to work on soon enough.

Remember, you only get one chance to make a first impression. If you go to work for some broker and can't fix the hail damage, they will label you a hack and won't ever hire you again. If you do go out and try to work this stuff, at least be up front about your experience. They will probably be a lot more likely to cut you some slack than if you try to pretend to know what you're doing. Believe me, it will show. You will honestly be better off waiting for some good hail damage, I promise.

The amount of confirmed hail storm damage in north Georgia is amazing!

The storms yesterday in Georgia seem to have left two separate but impressive paths of hail damage through and near the Atlanta metro area. If you have a bunch of extra time on your hands you can weed through the photos of the hail stones from these storms in the hail storm photo galleries here, here and here. Or you can just trust me that I have waded through all the pages of, "Sally holding a humongous hail stone the size of a golfball!" pics and put together the following list of the towns that have confirmed hail damage.

Those of you paying attention will notice there are a couple of towns on the list that were not on the hail damage reports from the SPC. If you plot these out on your map you will see that basically there were two hail damage paths, one across the north Atlanta metro and one across northern Coweta, Fayette, Spalding and Henry counties. Both of these areas are well populated (of course, the metro is a lot more densely populated) and the hail damage areas are very widespread.

At this point I have only been able to partially confirm some of the Alabama hail reports so, as usual, I'm only going to give you the good stuff without the guessing but I do have a bonus guess for you that I'll throw in at the end after the sure stuff. Let's get started on this batch of hail reports and confirmations.

Anniston, Alabama Hail Reports (Partially Confirmed)

I don't have a direct confirmation of the Anniston, AL hail report but I do have confirmations from around it. First I found a picture of some hail stones form Weaver, Alabama which is a few miles north west of Anniston. The hail stones aren't very big but they look like they might be quarter to half dollar size. This next picture comes from Goldsprings, AL which is where the original Anniston, AL hail report came out of. These stones were easily half dollar to golf ball before they melted down.

Fayetteville, Georgia Hail Damage Confirmation

OK, those are the confirmations of the Alabama hail reports that I have been able to get so far. Now for your bonus. This is one of those things that is a little hard to explain unless you have been out there chasing those beautiful sleeper storms that didn't make the report.

The Sharpsburg hail is huge and it's out in the country so it's not worth running on and the Fayetteville hail looks kind of small to me. So these are a waste of time to fool with, just skip 'em and move on right?

Pull out your map and look at exactly where these two towns are. Sitting almost directly between these two towns is Peachtree City, Georgia. Now that would be a town worth fooling with, right. I'm not making any kind of promises. I'm just saying, if you decide to load up the PDR tools and hit the road in search of some work, you might want to swing through that area. I've found sleeper storms on a whole lot less information that that.

I've got some pretty strong hail damage report confirmations out of Kentucky for you this time and it looks like it might be a bit of a long evening with more reports coming in from Alabama and Georgia so let's get started with the hail report confirmations. This Post is only going to cover the Kentucky hail reports.

Monticello, Kentucky Hail Reports (Confirmed)

I was able to come up with this picture of the hail stones from the Monticello, KY hail storm. This one is obviously legitimate.

Burgin, Kentucky Hail Reports (Confirmed)

This next image is out of Burgin, Kentucky which is just east of Harrodsburg, KY. This hail isn't as large as the stones in Monticello but they are big enough to cause some damage. I would say that the hail report out of Harrodsburg is worth checking out in person.

That's what I have for now. I haven't been able to get any confirmation of the Richmond, Kentucky hail reports yet but I'm still looking. I'm also working on the Alabama hail reports right now and will be posting about them shortly. Yes, I have some Alabama hail damage report confirmations too!

These hail damage reports from Oklahoma are looking good!

It's too early yet too get any on-the-ground confirmations and cool pictures of all the hail damage and huge hail stones but if I were going to run this storm, I would already be headed that way. Everything about this storm looks really legit.

I know, I've run plenty of bogus hail reports in Oklahoma over the years but this one looks better than most. If you watch this video from KOCO TV in Oklahoma City you will see them switch over to the radar and show a massive area of hail moving across the north side of the storm.

Just lay your map down and draw a line from just east of Yukon, Oklahoma, to Stillwater, Oklahoma and that's going to be your hail damage path. You'll see that path crosses through the north side of Edmond, Oklahoma as well as Guthrie and Coyle, Oklahoma, all the way up into the Wynona area.

The bottom line is, if your are ready to run this season, this is as good as any to hit the trail for. I'll be watching the reports and as soon as the news outlets start writing their stories I'll start posting the confirmations.

It's looking like this should be a good night for Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri hail damage reports!

Hail in New Hampshire and Connecticut! What's the world coming to? Just going by the reports it looks like there should be some legit hail damage in New Hampshire, Connecticut and Kentucky! I'll do a little more research shortly. I'm waiting to see how bad this stuff this afternoon and tomorrow ends up being. I'll post later if I find any confirmation.
